Terry Leedom Stipend

for a Student of Traditional Tae Kwon Do

at The Citadel

The Citadel and The Citadel's Chapter of the World Tae Kwon Do Association (WTA) have established a stipend to honor the memory of the late Col. Terry Leedom, former Public Relations Director, Communications Coordinator for the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, and member of The Citadel's WTA Chapter.

Terry Leedom was not the typical student of Tae Kwon Do, coming to martial arts later in life than most people do. But his friendliness and great sense of humor left a lasting impression on The Citadel class. He also exemplified some of the virtues we aim to instill in our students- patience, perseverance, and modesty. Both as a college leader and as a member of the WTA chapter, Terry Leedom was a mentor and friend to students in the CGPS. It is fitting that his influence on CGPS students be carried on through a stipend in his name that will cover the expense of traditional Tae Kwon Do training and belt testing from white to 1st DAN Black Belt.

Administration:

In the school year 2007/2008, the leadership of the WTA chapter will select one recipient of the stipend. As well as being patient, persevering, and modest, the holder of the stipend will practice regularly and show progress towards higher belt rank. The stipend will be evaluated annually and may be extended until the first regularly scheduled Black Belt test within the third year after the initial award. If there is no qualifying CGPS student, the stipend can be given to a day student.
